Acupuncture is a complementary medicine in which fine needles are inserted into the skin at specific points along what are considered energy lines (meridians) to treat various physical and mental conditions.
A key component of traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture is commonly used to treat pain and tight, knotted, or pulled muscles. It can also be used to treat weight gain and conditions such as insomnia, stress, allergies and addictions. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness and improved energy levels.
During a consultation, Melissa will take a complete medical history and look for the cause of any problems or imbalances. From there, a selection of points will be chosen. She will then insert several very fine needles, which will remain in place for about 20 minutes. Acupuncture is typically painless, and patients often report a great sense of relaxation during and after the treatment. Over the course of therapy, cumulative benefit can be seen.
