Acupuncture is a complementary medicine in which fine needles are inserted in the skin at specific points along what are considered to be lines of energy (meridians), and used in the treatment of various physical and mental conditions.
A key component of traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture is commonly used to treat pain, tight, knotted or pulled muscles. It can also be used to treat weight gain and conditions such as insomnia, stress, allergies and addictions. Increasingly, it is being used for overall wellness and improved energy levels.
During a consultation, Melissa will do a full medical history and be looking to identify the cause of any problems or imbalances. From there a selection of points will be chosen. She will then insert several very fine needles which will be left in position for around 20 minutes. Acupuncture is typically painless and patients often report a great sense of relaxation during and after the treatment. Over a course of treatment cumulative benefit can be seen.
